Assistant Superintendent

The Assistant Superintendent will report directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and will assist them with the everyday maintenance of the club grounds and the golf course. This position will supervise a maintenance department of 8-14 employees and a property of approximately 140 mowable acres of fine turf.  Greens and Fairways are L93 bentgrass, tees are a mix of L93 bentgrass and Tahoma 31 bermuda. 

Position Responsibilities  

• Managing soil moisture levels in fine turf utilizing TDR Field Scout moisture meters, soil probes, and hand watering.

• Recognizing signs of turf stress and initiating measures to prevent turf loss.

• Assist in Scheduling and assigning work tasks for grounds crew members, supervise employees to ensure quality work is being performed. 

• Train grounds staff on the operation of equipment properly.

• Serve as the supervisor in charge when the Superintendent is off property.

• Recognizing and assisting in the repair of irrigation system breaks. 

• Applying pesticide/fertilizer products using push spreaders, broadcast sprayers, portable sprayers, and vehicle mounted spreaders. 

• Operation of all grounds maintenance equipment in a safe and responsible manner.

• Course setup duties as needed. 

• Have a deep understanding of all facets of the aeration process and the desired result. 

• Assisting in planning and supervising winter tasks, such as Snow removal, tree removal, drainage improvement projects, and general equipment maintenance.
