The Golf Course Maintenance 2nd assistant will develop the skills and knowledge to assist in the management of all golf course maintenance responsibilities through a combination of training and hands on experience. This position will develop management skills to provide leadership to the team in the Superintendent’s absence. Strive to model the Pursell Farms core values in the completion of their work

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:

  • Perform or assist with all chemical and fertilizer applications made on property along with calibration of all equipment used.
  • Assist the irrigation tech with repair a Toro E-Osmac Irrigation System with Lynx Controls
  • Manage a diversified crew of 18-25 individuals to carry out task assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent
  • oversee and manage any assigned special projects
  • train employees to perform specific duties in a timely manner
  • lead and organize the golf course maintenance team in the absence of both the Golf Course Superintendent and the 1st assistant superintendent.
  • monitor VWC readings in Greens, Tee’s, Fairways,
  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent and Senior Assistant Superintendent with planning of all agronomic practices in a weekly, monthly and annual basis.

 

Education:

  • A degree or certificate in Agronomy and Soils or related field
  • Ability to obtain an Alabama Pesticide applicators license within 90 days of employment.

Skills and Abilities:  

  • At least one internship of golf course maintenance experience preferred including experience with pesticides/fertilizer usage and alternative methods of plant health management
  • Ability to perform in a leadership role using basic prescribed management skills
  • Self- starter with positive attitude and willingness to assume responsibility and be a team leader
  • Willingness to support the Pursell Farm Service Standards
