Shortland Golf Club is a new public golf course being developed in Wilsonville, OR. It encompasses 30 acres and includes a 19-hole short course (no hole longer than 99 yards), putting course, 9,000-sq-ft putting green, golf course walk-up bar (centrally located on the course), single green event space, and restaurant/bar. Previously, there was a golf course on the site, which was more than 160 acres, however, only 30 acres will be used for this project. We expect to open in early summer 2024.
Shortland Golf Club will be unique from other short courses because of its synthetic tees and greens. Technology in this area has improved dramatically over the last 7 years and now enables the golf ball to react just like it would on a natural green. Using synthetic grass has many benefits, including very low maintenance, no pesticides, no irrigation, and consistent play throughout the year. The greens will include synthetic collars and synthetic bunkers (white turf) to enhance the aesthetic appearance. Natural grass and landscaping will make up the rest of the property. The 19th hole will end in front of the restaurant, with a large deck above inviting customers to linger and watch players finish.
The Golf Course Superintendent at Shortland Golf Club will be responsible for all golf course maintenance. This includes: synthetic and natural turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, personnel management, budget/forecasting, financial management, scheduling/maintenance of irrigation systems, pesticide applications, and compliance of regulatory issues. The Golf Course Superintendent will work to create an environment where the staff is involved and enthusiastic, with open communications and respect for themselves, customers, and the property.
