| River Bend is located in Great Falls VA which is 20 minutes outside the beltway. The 18-hole championship golf course was completed in 1961 and has matured into one of the very finest in the area. The par 71 course, measuring nearly 7,000 yards from the championship tees, is both challenging and enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels. Greens, tees and fairways are 007 Bentgrass with low mow blue intermediate cut and turf type tall fescue rough. Fine fescue frames holes throughout the golf course. River Bend and Keith Foster developed the master plan for the renovation. Mr. Foster has renovated many of the top classic golf courses in the country. The renovated golf course was reopened on July 1, 2011, coinciding with the 50th Anniversary of the club.
The golf course features dramatic holes woven through the mature, hardwood trees and hills of Northern Virginia to produce some spectacular vistas. Classic stonework walls and bridges frame the ponds, streams and hills throughout the course. Highlighting the course are holes #9 & #18, two handsome par fives that return golfers to the clubhouse and highlight the rolling hills, lakes, and cascading streams. Summer of 2021 the Golf Practice Facility went under renovation that included a new 12,000sq ft 007XL practice green, 2 acres of Luminary bentgrass tees and Iron Cutter Bermuda grass tees, 2 acre bent/Bermuda short game fairway. August of 2022 all 18 holes bunkers were renovated to Better Billy Bunker with Best 900 sand. The Greens staff consists of 24 full time employees including a Horticulturist and landscape team. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to learn to manage turf through the summer stress experienced in the transition zone. Assistants will gain experience with RainBird IC irrigation, GPS chemical applications and calibration, crew management, disease identification as well as other aspects of golf course maintenance including working closely with the Superintendent and providing input for the success of the golf course. Our turfgrass management philosophies rely on hard work and persistence, however, we strive for our team to have a positive work-life balance and a vision for individual growth.
