Assistant Superintendent

The Assistant Superintendent will assist the Golf Course Superintendent in all duties relating to golf course maintenance, and is accountable for detailed course conditioning, team development, water management, equipment operations, as well as chemical & fertilizer applications as directed. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: leadership within the golf maintenance team daily operations, daily team scheduling, team training that emphasizes intricate attention to details in regards to golf course management and the clubhouse grounds, daily course set up, irrigation repair and maintenance as well as maintaining compliance of all regulatory issues. Example of duties include: Assuming role of Superintendent when he/she is unavailable Maintain positive relationships between the golf course management department, guests, team members and community Preserve a direct line of communication with Golf Course Superintendent to implement a maintenance schedule that compliments and enhances the membership experience Promote, maintain and enforce proper safety practices in accordance with all applicable laws Assist and monitor the golf course maintenance personnel (hiring, training, corrective actions, write-ups, terminations) as well as Maintenance Department Budget with the Golf Course Superintendent Exhibit a strong eye for attention to details Execute water management programs that ensure the best playing conditions as well as being good stewards to the environment Familiarity with Rainbird Irrigation central control and satellite operations Astute knowledge of Warm season grasses – Bermudagrass on tees, fairways and roughs Oversee golf course equipment and support with preventative maintenance programs and repairs Assist in the development of the facility’s golf course maintenance long and short-term objectives, goals, policies and programs Establish, supervise and maintain on-going team-member training programs Maintain effective cost controls for labor and other expenses Contribute to proactive soil and water chemistry management programs Ensure proper calibration of equipment and applications of chemicals and fertilizers Other duties as required and/or assigned

Requirements for the Assistant Superintendent Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turf Management or related field Texas Department of Agriculture Applicators License or ability to acquire in 90 days Valid Drivers License Ability to read, write and understand in the English language Member of the GCSAA 2-5 years golf course maintenance experience in golf course operations and turf management practices: ultra-dwarf bermuda experience preferred Must possess strong problem-solving skills and exceptional communication skills Supervisory experience preferred Rainbird Irrigation knowledge a plus Bilingual English/Spanish plus Exposure to the hot and cold temperatures in Texas Ability to work early mornings, days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time Handling of and exposure to normal chemicals used in maintaining a golf course Ability to lift and move items up to 40 lbs Ability to push/pull items 90+ lbs
