Rehoboth Beach Country Club, the premier private club on the Delmarva Peninsula, is seeking a highly accomplished Golf Course Superintendent to lead the golf course operations at one of the best golf courses on the Eastern Shore, and private club environments in the Mid-Atlantic.
The Golf Course Superintendent is entrusted with the maintenance, operation, and management of the golf course, including budgeting, capital project management and performance management of the GCM staff. The Superintendent plays a visible role and requires high levels of engagement within the Management Team as well as the Grounds Committee. He/she will be a humble leader, energetic, thorough, collaborative, hands-on, highly detailed and service-oriented partner.

Rehoboth Beach Country Club was the first golf course in Delaware to receive the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary designation from Audubon International in 2001. Initial Priorities of Position: - Learn the culture, operations and golf course working alongside Director of Golf, Assistant Superintendents and management team to ensure optimal daily conditions and member experiences.
- Focus on the fundamentals and details of golf course management as the selected candidate will be assuming the role in the peak of the golf season, and Mid-Atlantic summer season.
- Engages in overall Club Management, ensuring a team-oriented approach to all established RBCC programs, services and events.
- Listens and documents observations of Club, golf course, infrastructure, team, processes and overall recommendations in a 90-day report for continuous improvement in conditions, operations and member experiences.
Key responsibilities, knowledge, skills and attributes: Golf Course Maintenance/Agronomics: - Experience with coastal courses preferred but will consider those with proven success in more challenging growing environments.
- High quality creeping bentgrass management required.
- Assumes responsibility for managing and maintaining golf course properties which includes: the golf course, maintenance equipment shop, Clubhouse, Racquets and Golf Shop grounds and landscaping, open spaces, wooded areas, and unused acreage.
- Frequently inspects the golf course and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect changes in management programs.
- Plans all maintenance project work, applying his or her agronomic expertise to achieve the agreed upon maintenance standards and long-range goals.
- Consistently develops short-term lists to address attention to details throughout the property.
- Solid irrigation management practices that promote “firm and fast” conditioning through the green.
- Experience mitigating salt-water or water quality issues.

Leadership/Management: - Interviews, hires, trains, directs, and supervises a staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining the grounds.
- Takes ownership in developing staff including Assistant Superintendents, Equipment Manager and Grounds Crew.
- Works with the Human Resources department to adequately staff the department, including the annual filing for H2B visa Grounds Crew staff.
- Exhibits a professional, calm demeanor and builds rapport with diverse teams.
Communication: - Maintains open communication channels with the Director of Golf, General Manager/COO and Grounds Chairperson.
- Acknowledges the importance of effective, consistent communication with membership. Caters communication through a combination of face-to-face interaction, digital communications and committee engagement.
- Spanish language skills are highly preferred due to the Club’s involvement with the H2B process and Spanish-speaking staff.

Business Acumen: - Prepares the annual operating and capital budget in conjunction with the Director of Golf and Director of Finance.
- Purchases necessary supplies to maintain the golf course and other properties. The Superintendent is responsible for inventory control and oversees the equipment maintenance programs.
- The Superintendent exercises cost control measures to keep, as nearly as possible, operating expenses in line with the approved budgets.
- Keeps accurate and complete records on payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, etc.
- Leads Grounds Committee to ensure any short-term and long-term programs are sustainable, logical and coincides with the Golf Course Master Plan.
Asset Management - Provides strategic recommendations and insights to optimize Golf Course Master Plan timelines, budgets and results.
- Implements Delaware Best Management practices to ensure Audubon Certifications and all fertilizer/pesticide regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for supervising the maintenance and repair of construction and maintenance equipment.
- Proven experience in golf facility construction principles and methods.
- Maintains a top workplace, which includes consistent improvement of facilities and good housekeeping practices.
Golf IQ - High golf IQ - steward of the game, environment and traditions.
- Adapts maintenance practices to enhance design features and golfer playability.
- Strong agronomic skills, stays current with trends in turf technology and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications - Requires advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices at high expectation facilities in the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Science or related field.
- A minimum of 3- years of successful Golf Course Superintendent experience at a facility known for great golf conditions. Will consider those from a multi-course facility reporting to a Director.
- Prior renovation experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations)
- Requires current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator, or the ability to receive it within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Compensation & Benefits: - $150,000 - $175,000 depending on experience
