Under general direction, assist in the supervision and coordination of workers engaged in construction and maintenance of golf course by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Supervise and coordinate the workers engaged in constructing new areas and preserving golf course grounds. • Assign workers to specific task, such as fertilizing, irrigating, seeding, sodding, cultivating, raking, grading and spraying. • Direct and assist workers engaged in maintenance task, and operation of mechanical equipment. • Assist workers in performance of special care techniques of greens maintenance. • May inspect turf to recommend height and frequency of mowing and determine need for supplemental irrigation and of fertilizer, lime, insecticide and fungicide. • Maintain records. • May inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical defects in equipment used on golf course.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Skill in the use of standard repair tools; in mechanical equipment repairs; and in supervising others.
Knowledge of light and heavy duty construction, and maintenance equipment, and apparatus; of the theory, care and operation of internal combustion engines; of construction and maintenance of golf course, tee boxes, fairways and greens; of seeding maintenance of different types of turf; of drainage control, watering, and irrigation systems; of departmental policies and procedures; and of supervisory principles and practices.
Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance needs; to organize and present facts and opinions clearly; to deal tactfully with others; to plan, organize and control the work of others; to maintain physical stamina necessary to perform heavy manual labor; and to understand chemical labels and instructions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees 10 employees in the Golf Course department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Education equivalent to graduation from a standard four year high school supplemented by 15 college hours in turf management or related field and two years of satisfactory, full time paid employment in golf course maintenance or related work, with demonstrated supervisory skills or any equivalent combination of education or experience, substituting one year of satisfactory full time paid employment for 6 hours of the required college hours, with a maximum substitution of 6 hours.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
