Golf Course Superintendent
The Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Director of Grounds. The Golf Course Superintendent manages the day to day operation of the golf course, meeting the high expectations of the course and maintaining great playing conditions through water management and cultural programs. This position requires great leadership and communication skills. The Golf Course Superintendent directs and participates in all aspects of golf course maintenance and performs related work as required.
General Responsibilities:
Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of all areas of the golf course
Responsible for determining irrigation requirements and setting up nightly irrigation
Implements fertility and pesticide programs and monitors effectiveness.
Schedule and perform water amending ie acid and wetting agents
Scout golf course for disease, nutrient response and longevity, soil moisture, and course details
Supervises pesticide applications and ensures properly calibrated pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation, repair and maintenance of pumps, irrigation systems, central irrigation computer, and drainage systems.
Assists in Human Resource Management (record-keeping) and evaluations, implementing employee training and safety programs, personnel discipline/conflict resolution, seasonal employee hiring, and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
Communication with related departments as needed
Weekly meetings with the Director of Grounds
Co-leads snow removal operations
Record keeping of all pesticide and fertilizer applications and man hours
Maintain organization and cleanliness of maintenance facility
Exemplify professionalism at all times
Employment Standards
Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; plant protectant and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Require pesticide license or able to obtain one.
