Butler National Golf Club is a private 18-hole golf club located 25 miles outside Chicago. The club was built by developer Paul Butler in 1974 and became the permanent home of the Western Open until 1990. Since then, with the help of architect Tom Fazio, the club has continued to remain one of the top ranked golf courses in the country. The membership is committed to the traditions of golf and maintaining its world class reputation. Most recently began work on a new Fazio master plan which included a total bunker restoration and practice facility upgrade.
Position is designed to assist superintendent and first assistant with all aspects of course maintenance. Responsibilities will include crew supervision, irrigation scheduling, daily course preparation, tournament set up, oversight of all chemical and fertilizer application, record keeping and purchasing.
Michael Sauls has been the superintendent of Butler National for 32 years. As a graduate of the Penn State turfgrass program, Mr. Sauls has over 40 years of experience in the business which has included positions at Medinah Country Club and Spyglass Hills at Pebble Beach. He has hosted three PGA tournaments during his career and mentored over 65 interns and assistants, 30 who have gone on to successful superintendent careers.
Currently enrolled or graduated from a two of four year turfgrass management program or possess a degree in a related field.
