We are a member equity club governed by a Board of Governors. Black Hall Club is a “golf centric” club dedicated to the enjoyment of the game of golf. The Golf Course Superintendent is retiring after 40 years at Black Hall Club. He will be at BHC for the remainder of the year, and through the transition up until March of 2023.
Please note: the current Assistant Superintendent has been at BHC for 8 years and will be given strong consideration for this opportunity along with other qualified candidates.
The Superintendent position reports directly to the Green Committee Chair and Board. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years as First Assistant Superintendent experience at a similar quality facility. He or she must have a proven career path with strong operational management skills, experience with budgets, and first-class attention to detail in all aspects of the grounds maintenance. The ideal candidate should be a team leader and a hands-on worker who provides motivation and respectful mentoring to the staff. This position will be expected to attend monthly Board and Green Committee meetings, hire for and supervise a staff of 9 year-round, full-time and 10 seasonal employees, attend educational seminars and stay current on all industry trends and stay compliant with all Connecticut DEEP reporting requirements.
Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management with specific experience managing Poaannua / bent grass mixture greens.
A progressive turf manager with strong agronomic skills and demonstrated knowledge of advances in turf technology, irrigation management, and equipment.
Proven history of providing exceptional and consistent golfing conditions including firm and fast fairways and greens.
Subscribes to the benefits of environmental stewardship and sustainable maintenance practices.
Demonstrated compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Proven ability to manage department finances and keep department on budget as well as develop and maintain annual capital and operating budgets.
Maintain equipment inventory and plan for major equipment purchases.
Ability to manage vendors and keep projects on track and on budget.
A Bachelor or Associate’s Degree in Turfgrass Management or Agronomy
Valid Pesticide License with ability to obtain CT State Pesticide License within a reasonable time frame
