The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent manages all aspects of the club’s agronomy operation. This position reports to the club’s Golf Course Superintendent.
Specific Job Responsibilities
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent’s overarching responsibility is to maximize the golf courses’ condition and health within the budget provided.
The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the golf course superintendent. Under the superintendent's supervision, the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.
Have working knowledge of all golf course jobs and operation of all golf course equipment.
Assist in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; work schedules; and supervise the employees and the use of the equipment.
Supervise special projects and labor crews.
Be able to open maintenance shop with set of keys and run operations in the absence of the golf course superintendent.
Knowledge of agronomy, turfgrass science and the rules of golf.
Proven leadership capabilities.
Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Safety first, applying to all aspects of golf course maintenance. Enforces safe working conditions with all job assignments and is responsible for instructing staff on proper equipment use and work methods.
Instruct equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment.
Maintain chemical storage and mixing area in compliance with county, state, and federal regulations, responsible for the safety and direction of chemical handlers and/or helpers.
Current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
Report golf course conditions and all disciplinary problems to the golf course superintendent.
Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in grounds construction, landscaped area maintenance work and building maintenance and improvement.
Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers and various types of pumps and pumping system.
Operate irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water. Understanding green surface moisture levels, utilizing moisture meter and applying irrigation water by hand where needed.
Repair the irrigation system, pipes and irrigation heads as needed.
Possession of a valid driver's license

Walk and stand for long periods of time, sit, bend, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Lift up to 50 lbs. regularly; up to 75 lbs. occasionally and to lift overhead and push/pull, move heavy objects.

Be exposed to outside weather conditions including temperatures over 90 and below 40 degrees.
Work near: moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud
