SouthShore Country Club is an award-winning, members-only club located on Lake Las Vegas, Nevada’s largest privately-owned lake. SouthShore’s golf course is the first private Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in Nevada, an inspiration that reaches the tops of ridges before falling away down rugged canyons to the sparkling lake below; the course features bermuda fairways and rolling Bentgrass greens.  Rising from the shoreline of Nevada's largest privately-owned lake to the desert hills, the 6,925-yard championship course draws upon the area’s unique topography to provide a one-of-a-kind golfing experience.

For his first Nevada signature golf course, Jack carved out a dramatic layout creating a course with elevations ranging from 1,410 to 1,750 feet.  For golfers of varying degrees of expertise, the par-71 masterpiece has generous fairways, up to five tee boxes per hole and offers strategic bunkering and forced carries over canyons and water. With its dramatic elevation changes, superb conditioning and nuanced greens, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course ignites a golfer’s passion and provides a peaceful escape.

Framed by the desert, hills and generous trees, SouthShore challenges golfers to shape shots and choose options, an attribute showcased during the former Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge in which three players from LPGA, PGA and Champions Tour competed.

High points towering upwards of 350 feet provide jaw-dropping views of the rugged terrain framing the course and neighboring Lake Las Vegas. While the packed galleries have become a relished memory, the bighorn sheep have become frequent spectators on the course’s spectacular finishing holes.

The 28,000 sq. ft SouthShore clubhouse sits high above Lake Las Vegas and offers amazing vistas from its dining rooms and patios. Amenities include dining room, banquet facilities, library, locker rooms, and golf shop. The Lake Club, located at the lake's edge, provides banquet facilities, fitness & training, swimming, sand beach, tennis, and limited spa services in an 18,000 sq. ft. separate clubhouse.

Golf Course Superintendent Job Description

The Golf Course Superintendent (GCS) reports directly to the Club’s General Manager/Chief Operating Officer. The GCS is expected to be a visible presence among the team and members with exceptionally strong agronomic, business and communication skills. He/she is responsible for maintenance, operation, management, preparation, and condition of the golf course and club grounds.

The GCS must be an excellent communicator with a collaborative approach with both the management team and his/her team. He/she will have an extensive agronomical knowledge and know how. Understanding the expectations of the membership, building a strong relationship with Club leadership, setting a high standard for Golf Course conditions and a detail-oriented approach are essential for success.

INITIAL AREAS OF FOCUS

• Develop an understanding of course conditioning expectations
• Set standards for optimal course conditions
• Installation of 8 new greens’ fans
• Build a strong team while minimizing turnover
• Develop a strong relationship with key Club Team Members and ownership

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will be a Golf Course Superintendent at a club renowned for providing exceptional golfing conditions and will have the following qualifications:

• Strong agronomic ability
• Overseeding Experience
• Successful experience in desert climates
• Presently successfully managing bentgrass greens
• An appreciation for the aesthetic value of golf courses
• Solid irrigation management philosophy and practices, supporting firm fast conditions
• Stays current with advances in turf technology and equipment
• Experience with “high priority” bunker maintenance
• An attention to detail along with the ability to address key issues
• Possesses collaborative leadership qualities that have resulted in high employee satisfaction-proven staff retention, low turnover, and staff development
• A mentor to team members and a history of developing future turf management leaders
• Creative work scheduling to maximize team productivity
• Strong relationship builder with a history of excellent relations Golf Professional and General Manager
• Excellent member relations
• The ideal candidate will be highly driven and innovative
• Experience developing standard operating procedures and training programs to onboard new staff
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong budget management skills
• Experience developing capital equipment replacement plans
• Golfer/student of the game with a sound understanding of ideal playing conditions
• High golf IQ is essential

EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS

A degree in turf management or related field of study is required. GCSAA Certification is preferred.
