Assistant Superintendent

Job Description Summary: Perform, supervise, and inspect all aspects of maintenance of the golf course and golf club grounds on a full-time, salary basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assist in the development, execution, and supervision and evaluation of all turf management programs and practices, including budget, construction and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers and all other golf course facilities.
• Assist in the operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
• Oversees the completion of responsibilities assigned to all members of the maintenance department and ensure the quality of all work performed.
• Instruct and train golf course personnel in the care and safe and efficient operation of all golf course equipment.
• Calibrate, properly operate all spreaders and sprayers, and apply fertilizers and pesticides to golf course in an accurate and efficient manner.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance and oversees needed repairs of equipment and tools.
• Scouts, monitors, and investigates the conditions of the golf course property, including disease, pests, and vandalism then presents recommendation for repair or control.
• Maintains accurate application records and logs for weather, fertilization, pesticide applications, and cultural practices required.
• Maintains and cleans shop, lunchroom, staff restrooms, public restrooms, hand tools and equipment.
• Performs the duties of the Golf Course Superintendent in his absence.

Equipment and Materials Used:

The equipment and materials used include motor vehicles and mowers, electric and fuel powered tools, hand tools, specialized golf course equipment, hoses, planting materials, spreaders, sprayers, chemicals, fertilizers, safety equipment, computerized irrigation system, telephone, and general office equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

               Directly supervise up to 20 employees depending on the season of the year in the golf course maintenance department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and appraising of performance. Responsibilities also include planning, assigning, and directing work, training employees, rewarding/disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

               This position requires work performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Exposure to variable and adverse weather conditions. Exposure to biological dangers such as hornets/wasps and poison ivy/poison oak. Exposure to loud noises, vibrations, fumes, and air borne particles, grease, oil, and chemicals. Active physical work involving heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, standing, driving, and operating equipment for extended periods of time. Requires focus adjustment, depth perception, close and distant vision. Use of ear, eye, and skin protection.

Duration/Hours:

               This position is open immediately and is a full-time salary position.  This is a seasonal opportunity with the potential of being year round .  Hours worked per week vary from 40-55 hours.
