The Municipal Golf Association of San Antonio (MGASA) manages and operates the 8 Municipal Golf Properties within the city limits of San Antonio, TX. We run and operate as the Alamo City Golf Trail and have an excellent portfolio of Golf Course to offer quality golf courses at an affordable price to all citizens and guests of San Antonio.
We are excited to offer the unique position of Assistant Golf Course Superintendent within the Agronomy Team at our Historic Brackenridge Park Golf Course.
Brackenridge Park Golf Course is the heart of the Alamo City Golf Trail. Located just north of downtown San Antonio, this course is accessible for locals and visitors alike. The 2008 restoration of "Old Brack" re-routed the course to A.W. Tillinghast's (1916) original layout and renewed its conditions to compete with San Antonio's premier golf courses. Brackenridge Park boasts the accolade that it is the oldest public golf course in Texas.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Golf Course Superintendent with the daily management, maintenance and upkeep of the golf course, irrigation system, clubhouse area, parking lot and the outside perimeter of the golf course.
Key areas of responsibility include:
The Assistant Superintendent will be expected to perform all the following general duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent:
Assist with managing all aspects of daily golf maintenance operations.
Supervise daily crew assignments and activities.
Assists in the training and proper operation of all golf maintenance equipment.
Assists with the planning and execution of all planned agronomic programs, and general routine course maintenance.
Assists with daily scheduling of all employees assignments using OnLabor.
Assumes the responsibility of the Golf Course Superintendent in the event of their absence.
Required to perform and participate in all daily maintenance procedures and processes. This includes for example: changing cups and Course Set-up for daily play, Hand watering, Mowing all course areas, Irrigation scheduling and repairs, Pesticide and fertility applications via sprayer or granular applications, topdressing etc.
Required to work Weekends and Holidays
Competently be able to apply pesticide and fertility applications on the golf course as directed.
Accurately record all applications of Pesticides and Fertility using Playbooks.
Assists with daily Irrigation Scheduling and programming using Toro Lynx.
Assists with all Irrigation Repairs, Irrigation Audits, Field trouble shooting and fertigation set-up and management.
Skills / Qualifications:
A minimum Two-Year Turfgrass Management degree is preferred.
Supervisory experience a plus.
Experience with the use of Toro Irrigation components and Toro Lynx Software a plus.
2-4 Years prior golf course experience with progressive responsibilities.
Consideration will be given to those who exhibit exemplary performance.
Be in possession of /or Acquire and maintain a TDA (Texas Department of Agriculture) Non-Commercial Pesticide applicators license within the first 90 days of being hired
Working knowledge of Turfgrass maintenance equipment, standard golf course cultural practices, and irrigation system repair, use and maintenance.
Ability to perform, train and supervise golf maintenance employees.
Hands-on and willing to be a team player
Ability to play golf is preferred.

About Alamo City Golf Trail
The Municipal Golf Association San Antonio (MGASA), also known as the Alamo City Golf Trail, is a non-profit corporation that has partnered with the City of San Antonio to operate the City's eight golf facilities and be stewards of municipal golf. In May 2007, City Council approved a ten-year management agreement with the MGASA to improve the golf facilities and to manage their operation. MGASA constantly improves the municipal golf courses so that San Antonio Golfers will enjoy playing on premier courses at affordable prices!
