The Assistant in Training (AIT), under the supervision of the golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent, is responsible for the golf course irrigation system along with satellite and pump station operation. The AIT is also responsible for chemical applications on golf course properties including but not limited to golf course greens, tees and fairways. The AIT will gain experience with construction and the grow in of a Par 3 course.
Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently.
Must be a team player who brings forward new ideas, and is open for change.
Valid driver’s license.
Previous work experience on a golf course.
Turfgrass Management Degree Preferred but not required
Strong work ethic, self-motivated, high attention to detail.
Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
Complying with local State and Federal guidelines when applying chemical to the property.
Working knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in grounds construction, landscape maintenance and building maintenance and improvement.
Some knowledge of agronomy, turfgrass science and the rules of golf.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to read, understand and keep current with chemical labels and MSDS standards.
Ability to carry out any assigned tasks to a high standard and in a timely and efficient manner, while ensuring the safe use of equipment and materials.
