About the Course:
The 72-par Punderson State Park Golf Course stretches over 6,800 yards and features some especially long 3 and 5-par holes on the back side. Featuring rolling terrain, bent grass fairways and greens, it is often described as long and demanding but certainly worth the effort. Hole #8 is considered the course’s signature hole, featuring a narrow and wooded downhill fairway, with a dogleg over a pond on the green.
¨ Plans, schedules and directs all golf maintenance activities on a daily basis
¨ Assists the General Manager in preparing and monitoring the annual golf maintenance budget
¨ Maintains the appearance and safety of the course by diagnosing and reporting agronomic issues
¨ Manages irrigation system adjustments and scheduling
¨ Maintain a wide variety of turf grasses in accordance with local climate conditions
¨ Manages course preparations for tournaments and daily play
¨ Operates various hand and power tools as needed to accomplish mowing, edging and cultivation as needed
¨ Integrates environmental programs specializing in IPM (Integrated Pest Management)
¨ Oversees maintenance of golf maintenance equipment
¨ Assists in the coordination, scheduling and supervision of capital improvement projects
¨ Directs maintenance operations in accordance with contract specifications (employees involved in maintaining greens, fairways, tees, sand traps, bodies of water, rough, maintenance shop and golf carts) by recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling, evaluating, supervising and correcting when necessary
¨ Performs administrative functions by maintaining maintenance records and developing required maintenance reports
¨ Tracks maintenance expenses including payroll, supplies, fertilizer, chemicals, fuel logs, etc.
¨ Ensures a clean and orderly maintenance facility at all times
¨ Orders supplies and parts to ensure efficient and effective cost purchases in the best interest of the equipment and Company
¨ Oversees the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering and the pest and weed control of the golf course. Ensures that employees’ performance is evaluated in a timely manner
¨ Finds and implements professional resolution to problems and complaints as they occur.
¨ Communicates with the GM on a daily basis regarding operational developments of concern.
¨ Approve all weekly time sheets /payroll, purchase orders, and invoices. Update time & attendance sheets as needed.
¨ Participate in property meetings and employee functions as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
¨ Education in Turf Management, Agronomy or related field preferred
¨ Possess 3-5 years of golf course maintenance experience in a supervisory/management role
¨ Membership in the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association required
¨ Valid driver’s license required with clean MVR
¨ Valid pesticide / spray license required
¨ Ability to work days (including early mornings), weekends and holidays
¨ Ability to withstand outside summer temperatures and work with chemicals, solvents, detergents, cleaners, fumes, smoke, gases
¨ Ability to communicate effectively with Golf Professional, staff, ODNR and management
¨ Must have knowledge of budgeting and expense management
¨ Must have the ability to hire and develop a motivated golf maintenance staff
¨ Ability to repeatedly bend/stoop, frequently push/pull, and occasionally squat, reach above shoulder level, kneel and balance
¨ Must be able to frequently carry and lift up to 50 lbs.
¨ Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
¨ High degree of familiarity with and ability to use landscape and golf maintenance equipment
¨ Must be able to be on riding mower equipment for up to eight (8) hours per day
¨ Possess sufficient mobility to perform assigned tasks within production and service time frames established by the company
¨ Excellent written and oral communication skills
¨ Must be highly organized, efficient and detail oriented
¨ Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, and pull
About Punderson Manor Lodge & Conference Center
Punderson Manor Lodge & Conference Center is a lodging facility located on Punderson State Park in Newbury, Ohio. We offer 31 guest rooms, 26 cabins, indoor and outdoor swimming, a full-service restaurant, meeting and event space, and use of the park's facilities. Our golf course is a main attraction that stretches over 6,800 yards and is a 72-par course. A regular season lasting April 1st- October 30th, we welcome guests to take advantage of off season days when Ohio weather allows.
