The following job description and expectations have been identified for the role of the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training at Bellerive Country Club. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training is a very important position, which demands extensive turf grass knowledge, organizational skills, and dedicated efforts towards building an effective and enthusiastic team.
Under the Golf Course Superintendents supervision, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training will help to direct and participate in the maintenance and operation of the golf courses. This job requires knowledge of golf course turf grass maintenance practices including cultural practices, greens management, fertilizer and pesticide applications and irrigation system operation and repair. Also must have the ability to effectively schedule job assignments and supervise staff to achieve effective utilization of resources. May require current state licensing as a pesticide applicator. May require turf grass degree or formalized turf grass education. The typical work will most often be 40+ hours a week. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training will work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent and the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to ensure the successful daily operations of the golf courses. The Golf Course Superintendent may assign additional responsibilities and tasks.
Involved in the scheduling of work to be accomplished on the golf course on a daily basis.
Arranges and schedules for employees to take breaks and to be picked up for scheduled break times as necessary.
Communicates with others supervisors and staff to ensure a common understanding of daily operations.
Scheduling will be completed mid-day for the following day, to advise all staff members of equipment and staffing needs.
Communicates with other supervisors and staff during the workday to ensure a common understanding of scheduling changes and job completion.
Updates work assignments and future task to be accomplished on job boards on a daily a basis.
Weekend scheduling will be completed mid-day on Friday to advise all staff members of equipment and staffing needs.
Communication and input from other supervisors will take place to ensure a common understanding of the schedule for the weekend.
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training will understand daily scheduling for the golf course before leaving the maintenance facility.
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training will be involved in the supervision of golf course maintenance employees.
Responsible for providing a safe and productive work environment for all employees
Will adopt the understanding that the golf course maintenance staff is the biggest asset to the golf course and will be committed to providing supportive behavior.
ON THE COURSE
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training will be involved in the daily set up of the golf course and completion of assigned tasks in an accurate and efficient manner.
Responsible for providing an environment where an employee can be successful including providing proper training and job descriptions.
Ensure employees are accomplishing tasks in scheduled order or route.
Ensure employees are operating equipment in a safe manner and using safety equipment when necessary.
General housekeeping will be accomplished while on the golf courses such as ropes, stakes, traffic makers, 150 markers, debris, sand receptacles and unsightly weeds.
Ensure that all jobs are being completed per the corresponding job description
Involved in monitoring and scheduling irrigation needs using a soil probes and on course observations.
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training will be responsible for the upkeep of the neat, tidy, and organized maintenance facility and office including the scheduling and completion of daily shop patrol.
Ensures that break room patrol is accomplished daily, carts/equipment is put away and free of debris, wash pad is clean, tool room and irrigation room are neat and tidy.

The role of the Assistant-in-Training is crucial to the overall development of the team and is expected to perform as a leader of the crew. This role will require supervision of the staff over weekends and active communication with the membership.
1-2 years Golf Course experience or summer internship required.
Positive attitude, punctuality, cleanliness and well-groomed is imperative.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, fumes and/or airborne particles. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions. Noise level is moderate.

About Bellerive Country Club
Bellerive Country Club is a private country club located in the suburbs of St. Louis, MO. Established in 1897, Bellerive is known as one of the premier Country Clubs of the Midwest, and is currently ranked as the #30 Private Platinum Club in America.
The current site of Bellerive Country Club, known as the "Green Monster of Ladue" has been home to seven Championships over it's 60 year history, most recently the 2018 PGA Championship won by Brooks Koepka. Following 2018's PGA Championship, Bellerive has undergone an extensive PGA restoration and full-scale club renovation project, that encompasses all aspects of the club. Beginning in June of 2019 Bellerive has undergone an extensive greens rebuild, complete to USGA specifications. Additionally, the scope of the project captured the rebuild of the driving range and Short game areas, as well as PGA restoration sites and extensive drainage on the course. This construction project is forecasted to be completed by early November, and a critical role of the Assistant in Training is to aid in the grow-in and establishment of the new course infrastructure.
