The Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Director of Grounds. The Director of Grounds oversees the superintendents and maintenance operations at both Kestrel Ridge and The Oaks. The Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, rough, waterways and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The Superintendent may serve in the Director's capacity during his/her absence. This is a hands-on position that would make the perfect next step for an Assistant Superintendent.
Plans and supervises the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work; and supervises the employees and their use of the equipment.
Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; and supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
Personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline.
Create and modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
Assists with snow removal
Oversees maintenance of the clubhouse
Plans for future projects and improvements
Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
Ability to collaborate daily with managers/staff from other departments to ensure successful business operations
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; and maintain effective employee and public relations.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Obtain current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
Desire to build a good working relationship with associates, managers, supervisors and vendors
Act ethically and honestly in all business practices
Ability to work a flexible schedule including early/late days and weekends
Must be able to work in all weather conditions and lift 75 lbs
In 2019 Kestrel Ridge installed an extensive drainage upgrade that solved the majority of flooding issues
In 2020 Kestrel Ridge installed new (used) Toro Network VP field controllers installed
In 2021 Kestrel Ridge installed a new Watertronics Pumpstation
Future plans for Kestrel Ridge include new tee construction, bunker renovation, parking lot expansion.
