As a key member of the property’s golf course maintenance team, The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and assists with the day-to-day oversight of the maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course and adjacent grounds, including but not limited to the clubhouse landscaping and maintenance complex. The Assistance Superintendent should possess a strong work ethic and be able to work effectively in a team environment with the objective of meeting or exceeding club goals and standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises course maintenance staff; conducts performance evaluations, disciplinary procedures, makes decisions for hiring/firing/promoting/demoting/training of staff, as needed.
Assists in the planning and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways and all other club property.
Schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of all equipment.
Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing of all equipment.
Performs pesticide and fertilizer applications and keep records of all applications.
Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and the maintenance of the irrigation and drainage systems.
Assists in the personnel management, employee safety, personnel discipline and may modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
Ensures that chemicals, petroleum and other controlled products are used, stored and disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Maintains required OSHA records.
Complies with all Club policies and procedures.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
Prepares and revises grounds standard operating procedures.
Maintains and repairs irrigation clocks, drainage and watering systems.
Trims trees and removes cuttings, as needed.
Performs special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements
1-3 years turf grass management experience required.
Supervisory experience required.
GCSAA Member or apprentice preferred, but not required.
A four-year college degree preferred, but not required.
Ability to acquire state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
Must be highly organized and efficient with a high attention to detail.
Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Must have a valid driver’s license for golf cart, golf equipment and vehicle operation.
Experience with a high-end and/or private golf course preferred but not required.Ability to read and speak English is required in order to perform the duties of the job.
Must be able to walk, stand, sit, stoop or bend for duration of an eight (8) hour shift.
Regularly liftsup to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge in golf course operations and etiquette.
Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
Ability to train and supervise staff.
Must be able to walk. stand, sit stoop or bend for duration of an (8) hour shift.
Must have a valid drivers license.
Required Experience: One (1) year experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with a high-end and/or private golf course is preferred but not required.
