The 2nd Assistant Superintendent is a key member of the property’s golf course maintenance team, the 2nd Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and assists with the day-to-day oversight of the maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course and adjacent grounds, including but not limited to the clubhouse landscaping and maintenance complex.
Compensation: $21 per hour, plus benefits
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
A four-year college degree preferred, but not required
GCSAA Member or apprentice preferred, but not required
Knowledge of budgeting and expense management strongly desired
Supervisory experience strong desired
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Knowledge of agronomy, turf grass science and the rules of golf
Must possess basic computer skills – Word and Excel
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Must be extremely organized, efficient and detail-oriented
Must be highly motivated, goal driven and self-starter
Reports golf course conditions to the golf course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
Responsible for all phases of golf course maintenance as directed by Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent
Supervises irrigation technician and other employees in the maintenance department Prepares weekly schedules for foreman, irrigation staff and other employees in the maintenance department as directed by superintendent
Issues written and oral instructions to maintenance personnel; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures
Assists the Superintendent in preparing short-term and long-term agronomic strategies to maintenance of the golf course daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly fertilization, irrigation, etc. schedules
Calibrates and operates pesticide sprayers
Manages proper application and documentation of all chemicals and fertilizers as outlined in agronomic plan and weekly schedule
Assist the superintendent in development, presentation, and documentation of safety meetings
Aerifies greens; verticuts and or mow tees and greens; spikes greens; operates sod cutter, spray rigs for greens and fertilizer spreaders; and mows rough with rotary and operates other equipment as directed
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager
