The 2nd assistant golf course superintendent reports to the golf course management team. Under their supervision, the 2nd assistant superintendent helps management facilitate the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, roughs, and cart paths. One of the primary responsibilities is maintaining and repairing the current, extensive irrigation system. Previous experience with Toro irrigation would be beneficial, training will be provided by staff and other resources as needed. Position requires the individual to be able to prioritize work with guidance from management and be self-motivated. This position is ideal for someone in the turfgrass managment industry who is looking to start their career as an Assistant Superintendent.
Maintain and repair irrigation system using the most efficient means possible
To be able to provide irrigation solutions by utilizing knowledge of water management and its effects on different soil types and terrain
Learning the capabilities and applications of all available irrigation products
Provide ideas on how to make the current mapping of valves, pipes, and heads more efficient to the users
Assist in nutrient and plant protectant applications to the golf course
Scout golf course for disease, nutrient response and longevity, soil moisture, and course details as defined by management team
Record keeping of all pesticide and fertilizer applications
Maintain organization and cleanliness of all tools, vehicles and irrigation supplies used to perform responsibilities
Exemplify professionalism at all times
Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal direction
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
Position pays $19/hour with significant overtime during the season.
Additional Salary Information: Significant overtime available during the season.
