Assistant Superintendent
Northeast Harbor Golf Club
Description:Northeast Harbor Golf Club was established in 1895 and started as a 9 hole course. The original 9 holes as the course exists now, were designed by Arthur Lockwood in 1916 and the second 9 holes, designed by Herbert Strong, opened in 1925. Although the course is only 5602 yards from the back, it can be quite a challenge with its undulating fairways and small greens. NEHGC is a private course that is also open to public play in the spring and fall, as many of the members are only seasonal residents. The course used to be a kind of “hidden gem”, but has recently come to the forefront in the area and has seen a large increase in public play. The club is interesting in that it provides golf services only. We have a healthy membership who is open to making capital investments to improve the golf course. This winter we have been updating some equipment and have also installed a central irrigation controller and updated all irrigation satellites as well. NEHGC is in a transformative time, as we have transitioned the Assistant Superintendent into the Superintendent role. This is the perfect time to bring in some new people with fresh thoughts, new methods, and great attitudes. We will be working out some frost heave areas in fairways over the coming years along with rebuilding and enlarging select tees. Fairway lines and fairway bunkers will be moved, and a handful of greenside bunkers will be moved significantly as well. You will be working closely with the Superintendent and the GM, and will attend the yearly board meeting as well. I would like the person in this position to be running day-to-day operations, and am willing to train the applicant up to that level. In addition to standard golf maintenance, the Assistant will be making spray and fertilizer applications to the greens and fairways, and will also maintain the irrigation system. I am one who looks to maintain a good work/life balance, and this is an amazing place to do so, as we have Acadia National Park as our neighbor. This is a great area to raise a family, as I am doing myself. For an outdoorsman, this area will not disappoint. The hiking, canoeing/kayaking, rock climbing, fishing, and hunting opportunities in the area are truly second to none.
