Position Overview: Capilano Golf and Country Club is currently seeking an enthusiastic and qualified arborist to manage the approximate 20,000 trees spread over the 165 acre golf course property. This individual will be responsible for planning, coordinating and executing a wide variety of arboricultural tasks as they relate to ongoing tree health assessments, removals; and the clubs Tree Management Plan. Course Information: Capilano is a private 18-hole facility located in beautiful British Columbia. Constructed in 1938 by esteemed Canadian golf course architect Stanley Thompson, Capilano is continually ranked in the top 10 golf courses in Canada by Score Golf Magazine and ranked in the top 100 golf courses in the world outside the United States by Golf Digest. Capilano is committed to continually restoring and improving the golf course as part of a Course Long Range Master Plan that has been in place for several years. Our high performance Course and Grounds team is comprised of up to 38 employees who love to work outdoors, enjoy being in the company of others, and who take pride in their work. Location: West Vancouver, British Columbia. The course is surrounded by mountains with access to hiking, mountain biking and skiing, and is located less than 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Continually rated as one of the best cities in the world to live, Vancouver is known for being modern and safe, and has great amenities such as numerous beaches, Stanley Park forest and quick access to the North Shore mountain range. Main Responsibilities: - Work directly with the management team in the prioritization, scheduling and communication of all arboriculture activities.
- Develop, implement, and modify management programs for all trees on the property using and understanding the club’s Tree Management Plan.
- Undertake ongoing tree health assessments to produce an annual hazardous tree removal list.
- Undertake large tree removal work on a weekly basis in accordance with best industry practises for climbing, rigging and felling trees as required.
- Perform all arboriculture work to a high standard and in a timely and efficient manner, while ensuring the safe use of equipment, machinery, and materials protecting all personnel, members and the golf course.
- Work closely with outside contractors as required during construction projects, large scale tree removals, and replanting efforts.
- Lead and educate a small team of support ground staff to achieve arboricultural objectives.
- Assist in communicating tree health issues with the membership and the neighbouring community.
- Participate in weekly technical meetings and provide written reports, updates, and detailed documentation as required.
- Aid in the education, training, and supervision of the course Intern(s) in areas related to arboriculture.
- Work directly with the Environmental Coordinator to maintain Audubon certification in aspects related to arboriculture.
- Be proactive in seeking out educational opportunities related to arboriculture and apply that knowledge to daily tasks.
- Attend regional golf and arboriculture seminars as well as other networking events.
- Be available to participate in other golf course maintenance practises as required.
- Undertake regular and appropriate maintenance of chainsaws and climbing equipment.
- Conduct themselves in a professional manner and represent the golf club to the highest standard at all times.

Summer shifts are Monday to Friday 6:00am to 2:15pm. Schedule can be discussed as needed. A typical week consists of 3 days of climbing for removals/limbing, and two days of clean up/organizing/assessing. This varies throughout the season.
