Horticulturist

Job Requirements:

• Have or is actively pursuing a 2 or 4-year degree in Horticulture or with 3 years of professional experience in horticulture or closely related field.
• Some supervisory experience—oversight of landscape crew.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Possess or obtain a Texas Pesticide applicator’s license within 90 days.
• Motivated self-starter who has an eye for details.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures for landscape management.
• Can work in all weather conditions.
• Flexible work schedule—work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Operation of power equipment and heavy machinery if needed.
• Some Spanish preferred but not required.

Responsible for:

• General maintenance of all clubhouse lawns and landscapes.
• Daily scheduling of 4 fulltime employees
• Overseeing and monitoring crew performance.
• Color change out and flowerbed maintenance.
• Irrigation scheduling and proper hand watering practices for supplemental water.
• Proper application, timing and record keeping of fertilizer and chemicals.
• Budgeting and purchasing plant materials, fertilizers, tools and chemicals

Physical Requirements:

• Required to bend, stoop, and stand up to 8-10 hours a day.
• Must be able to lift, push, or move up to 50 lbs.
• Work Independent--able to move about departments and club buildings in a professional manner.
• Must have good or corrected vision to select/stock merchandise and read labels.
• Must be able to work in a busy environment.
