Shannopin Country Club is seeking a well-qualified assistant golf course superintendent. Designed by Emil Loeffler, the club opened for play in 1920. Shannopin recently celebrated its 100th year anniversary. The club is eager to find a motivated, qualified applicant to help lead Shannopin towards its future goals.
The club recently completed the installation of new greens’ loop irrigation around all 18 greens and the practice facility. This system features Rainbird IC, efficient in and out sprinkers and new turf type tall fescue sod on all green complexes. Long term goals feature bunker renovations and the implementation of a fairway topdressing program.
The ideal candidate shall possess a keen eye for detail and the ability to anticipate and correct problems as they arise. The candidate shall desire to advance in the industry and must display the proper attitude and dedication to do so. Working closely with the golf course superintendent, the candidate will further develop their skillset with the overall goal of attaining a superintendent position in the future.
Necessary Knowledge and Experience
Manage and assign daily tasks to employees based on the needs of the course
Supervise and assist all course setup, mowing, bunker raking practices on a daily basis
Effectively and efficiently manage a seasonal crew of 10-15 employees
Candidate must display effective training skills with employees who may be new to the industry
Implement and enforce safety practices to ensure a safe work environment
Adept at scouting and identifying turfgrass diseases and pests
Coordinate, schedule and assist in all chemical, fertilizer and topdressing applications
Must keep accurate and detailed chemical records and inventory in accordance to local and state laws
Knowledge of irrigation scheduling, troubleshooting, installation and repair
The ability to deliver firm and fast conditions through various water management techniques
Experience in bunker renovation, tree removal and construction of greens, tees and fairways
Knowledge of the game and rules of golf
Exceptional written and verbal skills are required
Winter snow removal from clubhouse grounds, parking lots and paddle courts
Ability to act in place of the superintendent in the times of his absence
Minimum Job Requirements
Valid drivers license required
2 or 4 year turfgrass degree/certificate from an accredited university
Must possess or obtain a PA pesticide license within 90 days
Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed
3-5 years of experience in a management role desired, but will consider recent graduates.
Employer will assist with relocation costs.
