The Kansas City Country Club will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2021 and continues to receive Platinum Status as being one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs in the Midwest. Established in 1896 and located five miles from downtown Kansas City in Mission Hills, Kansas, this private, 127-acre property is the third oldest country club west of the Mississippi River. The home course of Tom Watson was originally a polo club and now provides its membership with an A.W. Tillinghast designed top 5 golf course in Kansas, and other amenities including a pro shop, Olympic sized pool, tennis courts, paddleball courts, restaurant, fitness center, and multiple game rooms. The golf course recently completed a renovation including a complete HDPE Toro irrigation system and XGD drainage install throughout greens surfaces. Managed turf types on the course include creeping bentgrass greens, zoysiagrass tees and fairways, and a fescue/bluegrass mix in rough stands.
The Kansas City Country Club is seeking dependable, hardworking individuals for the 2021 summer as part of the Greens & Grounds department. Along with a competitive compensation rate, other benefits include uniform, daily meals, and golf privileges. Housing assistance is available if necessary. This internship opportunity will help individuals grow professionally by serving as a link between classroom education and professional work experience. As an intern, you will work closely with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents to make sure our conditioning meets the standards of our membership. The intern will be exposed to all aspects of the golf course industry and will have opportunities for scholarships granted by regional associations. Interns will be an active part of chemical applications, daily set-up processes, equipment operations, moisture management teams, and be involved in the overall planning and execution of all agronomic practices necessary to provide our members exceptional daily conditions. Learn and maintain the health of playing surfaces through effective moisture management
Participate in daily course setup
Perform all aspects of bunker maintenance
Effectively apply pesticides and herbicides
Operate various types of equipment (mowers, aerification, etc.)
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Self-motivated and dependable with a willingness to work
Punctual with strong attention to detail
Willingness to be flexible and adapt as necessary
Golf course experience helpful but not necessary
In a turfgrass/horticultural program
