The 2nd Assistant Superintendent coordinates and supervises a team of turf grass and landscape maintenance under the direction and standards set by the Superintendent. You will be responsible for all golf course maintenance operations when the superintendent is not on site.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to the following duties and responsibilities the 2nd Assistant Superintendent maybe assigned other duties that relate to the needs of the Club.
Responsible for the daily set-up of the courses for the enjoyment of member and guest play; including proper maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs and landscape as well as pin placements, water and ice and proper signage.
Responsible for training staff in all areas of course maintenance including the use of hand tools as well as all motorized equipment. Insuring that all equipment is cleaned and stored away in its proper location and any damage or repair is reported to the Lead Mechanic. Training should also include the proper etiquette of working while golfers are present.
Insures that members of his team have clear daily assignments including first and second jobs.
Provide weekend duty as schedule requires.
Monitor irrigation program set-up for the course adjusting for abnormal wet or dry conditions as well as keeping all heads and irrigation boxes in good repair.
Continual training on safety in all areas of golf maintenance to include the shop, all equipment, course, roadway, weather, chemical usage and storage is expected to be on going and given top priority.
Attend all Club meetings as required. Forum @3, University of Ocean Reef and any called meetings by other departments or management.
Attend and prepare presentations both written and verbal as required for the Green and Golf Committee meetings.
Report any and all Member concerns to the Superintendent in a timely manner.
Work with the Lead Mechanic to insure that all equipment is kept in top condition.
Supervise spray techs to insure proper handling of chemicals and correct applications as well as keeping all records that are required by law and the Club.
Cleanliness of the staff, courses, equipment and the shop is required. The responsibility to keep all associates and areas of golf maintenance in acceptable condition and appearance is a key and very important part of this position.
Help prepare and conduct bi-weekly staff meetings and other meetings as necessary to keep maintenance team members well informed and safe.
Work with any consultant or specialist that may be hired by the Club. Providing information and feedback as requested.
Pursues training and development opportunities. Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills.
Coordinates purchases and maintains inventories through the direction of the Superintendent.
Work with the Golf professionals on tee times and tournament set-up.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s polices and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training staff; planning, assigning and direct work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates.

Demonstrates knowledge of all phases of golf course operations including but not limited to agronomics, personnel development, equipment operation, water management, course construction and landscape.
Analyzes, interprets and complies with government rules and regulations as it relates to golf course and landscape.
Possesses good communications skills
Organization skills including the ability to meet dead lines and coordinate projects
Posses computer program skills for Club management responsibilities as well as OSMAC and SITE PRO irrigation coordination
Education and/or Experience:
College turf and/or Business degree preferred. Minimum of 1 to 2 years in the Turf business.
Must have excellent English communication skills. Bilingual a plus.

Certified chemical and Pest applicator license
