Course Description: CVGC is and equity club with approximately 500 members. Founded in 1923, CVGC underwent a renovation to its greens tees, and fairways in 2008, under the direction from Forse Design. Bunkers were restored in 2004. The club is in the preliminary steps of undergoing a long-range improvement plan to the golf course and campus wide in coordination with Forse Design and the McMahon Group. (www.chestervalleygc.org). Improvements to the golf course potentially include, a state-of-the-art practice facility, fairway expansions, forward tees, roll off areas to green surrounds, adding or removing bunkers, and incorporating the remaining phases of our already existing Landscape Master Plan into the mix.
Comments: The greens department has a solid foundation of full-time staff who are cross trained in almost everything that needs to be accomplished. With this core nucleus, we are able to complete daily tasks within an 8-hour day routinely. We believe in having a life outside of work. Work hours for this position range from 40-50 hours/week in season, and 40 hours during the offseason. Some exceptions, as should be expected, from time to time do arise. In season, your days off are every other weekend, and we can be and must be flexible. Weekend hours typically are 3-4 hours a day, and if necessary, during the summer months, you are expected to return in the afternoon to monitor playing conditions as and where needed. Experience Requirements: The individual must have a minimum of 3-5 years practical golf course experience, along with a minimal of 1 year as a Second Assistant or related position. This is not an entry level managing position. The assistant will work with and report directly to the golf course superintendent. With aid from the superintendent, the assistant will oversee and be responsible for the entire operation and the golf course as if they are the GCS. Duties will include but not be limited to: course setup, mowing of playing surfaces (greens, tees, fairways, roughs), bunker and natural area maintenance, ability to operate any piece of equipment on site when necessary, proper hand watering procedures to playing surfaces (greens, tees, fairways, roughs), ability to diagnose and repair basic issues with the irrigation system, have solid experience with the proper handling, tracking, record keeping and application of fertilizers and pesticides along with basic comprehension of their purpose and inventory control. The applicant must have the ability to scout for and be able to diagnose common pests related to the turf industry. Applicant must possess a PA spray license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of hire. (No exceptions!) Applicant being proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point are necessary. Knowledge with Rainbird would be a plus, but not necessary. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus. The individual must be a self-starter, motivator, maintain a positive attitude, reliable, organized, and have a keen eye to detail. The Assistant will, under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, oversee and manage the day to day operation of the green staff at Chester Valley Golf Club.
Special Requirements: The candidate will be involved with annual budget construction, data entry, development of fertilizer/pesticide programs, development and planning of daily/weekly/monthly operational tasks, along with coordinating them with the busy golf calendar, water usage/tracking, and labor tracking.
