The irrigation technician will be responsible for all irrigation related repairs and adjustments on the golf course, clubhouse, and may be asked to assist with our landscaping irrigation responsibilities. This position, under direction of the 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, will monitor the daily application of water to the property and identify and prioritize the repairs needed to ensure the best playing conditions for our members & guests. This position will also be responsible for assisting the golf maintenance department with their winter responsibilities. This is an excellent position for an individual with some irrigation experience who has just completed their formal golf course maintenance education. While irrigation repairs will be a primary responsibility of this position, the irrigation technician will be expected to assist with all aspects of golf course maintenance and will be thoroughly trained on how to complete them.
Inspection of all irrigation components after charging the irrigation system in the spring and making necessary repairs to irrigation heads and wiring, main & lateral lines, and irrigation satellites.
Basic understanding of electricity and the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues.
Daily and weekly inspection of all irrigation heads to ensure water is being applied to the golf course in the intended manner to ensure optimal playing conditions.
Programming and adjusting runtimes of irrigation head cycles to improve growing and playing conditions.
Maintain an inventory of all irrigation related repair materials, and ordering supplies as needed to ensure parts are available for all repairs necessary on the golf course.
Thorough understanding of pump & filter station functionality and the ability to troubleshoot issues that may arise.
Assist the golf maintenance team with their winter responsibilities including snow shoveling, ice rink maintenance, grooming cross country trails, and operating snow removal equipment.
Ability & willingness to perform all course set up related tasks including but not limited to mowing, granular & foliar fertilizer application, aerification, cutting cups, raking bunkers, sod & seed projects, & hand watering.
Assist the golf maintenance team in keeping the maintenance shop a clean & organized environment.
Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while working around members, guests, and other employees of Moonlight Basin.
Helping maintain fuel and fluid levels in all types of equipment on a daily basis and assisting equipment manager by reporting any mechanic issues related to the golf course & snow removal equipment.
Understand the game of golf and learn to understand expected golf course conditions and report to supervisor any potential issues.
Guide and grow seasonal and full time crew members, interns, and other team members by sharing knowledge and experience to grow the golf maintenance and snow removal departments.
Skills & Requirements
A degree or certificate in golf course maintenance is preferred, but not required.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis
General understanding of the game of golf
Safely operate hand tools and power equipment related to maintenance of the golf course
Perform daily responsibilities on the course in all weather conditions
Ability to work individually and as a team with other grounds crew members
Possess strong leadership qualities and communication skills
Perform physically demanding tasks for the majority of the work day
Follow written and oral directions from supervisor/manager
Possession of a valid driver’s license
