Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Connecticut, is excited to announce the career opportunity of a 1st Assistant Superintendent.
Managed by Troon Golf and located across from Foxwoods Casino, Lake of Isles features two championship golf courses designed by Rees Jones. The South Course is an 18-hole Troon Prive course servicing over 300 members. The award winning North Course is a resort public course. The Lake of Isles Teaching Center has an 8-acre driving range and over one acre of maintained turfgrass practice tees. Each course consists of A1/A4 bentgrass greens, bentgrass fairways and tees, and rough consisting of bluegrass and fescue.
Under the superintendent’s supervision, the 1st Assistant directs and participates in the maintenance of the entire golf course. The Ideal candidate will be highly self-motivated, passionate, with a strong hands-on work ethic with an eagerness to learn and has a strong attention to detail. Spanish speaking skills are a plus.
The 1st Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent in all aspects of golf course management.
Supervises and assists maintenance staff in daily duties.
Calibrates, mixes, records, and supervises all plant protectant applications.
Must be able to recognize, troubleshoot and solve problems.
Must possess ability to coordinate and complete tasks with limited supervision.
Implements proper hand watering practices on putting green surfaces and surrounds.
Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed including compliance with government regulations.
Ensures associates obtain proper license needed to perform job tasks safely and within city, state, and federal regulations. Addresses directly all real or perceived environmental concerns.
Knowledge of the use of turf equipment including tractors, mowers, aerifiers, etc.
Manages department members that may include, but is not limited to: Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician.
Assures that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate. Develops ongoing training programs.

Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
Bachelors degree, Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from four or two-year college or technical school is preferred. (Degree preference in agronomy/ horticulture/ plant/soil science).
Regularly stands, walks and sits. Regularly uses hands, reaches with arms and hands, talks or hears. Occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds.
Valid Driver’s License, Ability to Obtain a Pesticide Application License

Ability to read and speak English is required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g. the associates are required to communicate with English speaking customers or co-workers, the manuals for the equipment the associates may use are in English).
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
